I've only recently discovered that unless I restart LMS, the bridge settings don't seem to stick. Pretty much renders any testing done prior this discovery invalid. This led to quite a bit of confusion. The latest round of testing (shown above) confirms what you say here.

Maybe so(re truncating), although I have no real reason to suspect this is happening. The specs for receiver say it is capable of it and it has a 24bit dac, so I can't imagine why it would. philippe_44 wrote: > - aac is a poorly supported format by my bridge (it would require a fair > bit or on-the-fly data re-packaging), quite often it's better to remove > it from codecs and let LMS transcode Not a major issue for me, although in the very limited testing I've done so far it seems to work philippe_44 wrote: > - mp3 does not play because you have disabled mp3 in codecs list, and I > don't think LMS by default has a rule to decode mp3 to pcm (which makes > sense b/c all players support mp3 and why would you want to decode it in > LMS ...) I guess the only reason would be for replay gain purposes? philippe_44 wrote: > - if levelling is LMS's replay gain, can you tell me how you get the > gain to be calculated? It's because wav format does not support a > replaygain information Not entirely sure what you're asking here. Replaygain info is in the ALAC tags. I use foobar2000 to scan them and add the info. My knowledge of PCM/WAV is somewhat limited. So wav doesn't support support replaygain data in the tags? Does that really matter if the player doesn't support replay gain anyway? Couldn't the volume adjustment be made during conversion from alac to wav/pcm? philippe_44 wrote: > - the "very slow", there is a problem with LMS, pcm and sample rate > above 96 kHz where LMS tells the player that sample rate is 44.1 > although it's 192 (e.g.), but I can't remember exactly what happens, I > have to look into my notes. So I guess to summarise where we at with this: -PCM raw isn't going to work because my player at least doesn't advertise 24bit -The following works, but no replaygain LMS Volume Adjustment/Replay Gain: no volume adjustment Supported codecs: pcm PCM format: wav 24 bits PCM: plain 24 bits Result: 24bit plays and recognised as 24bit, 16 bit plays, mp3 won't play, AAC plays Log: https://pastebin.com/B4T9Fz1h -The following produces really loud distorted audio on 24bit content LMS Volume Adjustment/Replay Gain: smart gain Supported codecs: pcm PCM format: wav 24 bits PCM: plain 24 bits Result: 24bit plays really loud and distored, recognised as 24bit, 16 bit plays, mp3 won't play, AAC plays Log: https://pastebin.com/V6BZjimX -With replaygain turned on in LMS and the settings above in bridge, 16bit content does seem to have replay gain applied. ie volumes are levelled between tracks.
