I'm having the same issue and it appears that piCore/ffmpeg does not like files unless artwork is embedded correctly as jpeg, so anything with png embedded will not play, also artwork embedded from e.g. Google Images via drag/drop to iTunes will not play. If I remove the artwork in iTunes then re-add as a jpeg then all is well Is FFmpeg the only option to play alac natively?
