After seeing your post I checked again with a different album (a loudness war victim) and now I am not so sure. Now I am convinced it doesn't work. First I thought maybe Spotify use a different replaygain target volume but I set the default remote stream volume adjustment to 0 and can't hear any difference with normalisation on or off.
