You might want to read the 'wiki pages' (https://github.com/aesculus/denonavpcontrol/wiki) for information on how the AVR volume is controlled. In a nutshell, it depends on the LMS volume control setting for the player. If it is set to "Fixed at 100%", as recommended, the client volume control adjusts the AVR's preamp volume. If it is set to "Variable", then LMS acts as the preamp and the AVR volume stays constant.
