I don't think the deb creates a slimserver group, only user. So perhaps
you could try the commands like this:
'sudo chown -R slimserver /usr/share/slimserver/Plugins/Alien'
and enter your root password.
Also you should start and stop slimserver with:
'sudo /etc/init.d/slimserver {start,stop}'
and enter root password.
