Love those ideas and how they could look. Would be interesting to try it out and see how it looks.
>From a pure usability point of view I guess I would be more interested in filtering my collection by artist, genre, etc. and then browse the albums using your 3d visulaization. In this respect it would not be very important whether artists or genres are represented by pictures or just names as much as that it should be easy and fast to include or exclude them in the filter. Eventually including multiple selections in the filter could be a great addition.
