Users put mplayer in different directories for different distros. It is hard to get a message to the user. Any error message from mplayer.sh that mplayer could not be found will only appear if a user is running SC from a shell prompt and not as a daemon.
Perhaps something extra checks can be done in the plugin initialisation and put a message in the log file.
