I'll be honest I can't remember now which playlist I had set to play! However, the symptom was that the player would switch on and the playlist appear to start playing but then freeze (using Softsqueeze you could even see the VU meters jump for a second then freeze)...
I'll do some more testing tonight and note the playlists this time. I'll also try out the other things you suggested.
