Do you mean for strings of type _MSG_ at the end of the file ?
I have tried using entities, and they show up undecoded on the SB3
display (eg Redémarrer instead of Redémarrer). I also tried
the perl \x{hhhh} syntax and it didn't do any good.
Then I looked into SC's strings.txt file and I saw it uses straight
wide characters.
The file ends up with a mix of entities and unicode wide characters but
could do without entities I guess (HTML being XML-ish and XML natively
supporting UTF-8.)
I don't mind the search and replace job, but I'd like a confirmation.
