I've never connected to a different machine :) Can you enable the Debug log for the Plugin in SC Advanced Settings and check whether the Plugin calls the proper URL? If so, it might be a Firewall issue on the target machine. I'll do a proper test tonight.
Yes, the VLC Now Playing screen is completely detached from the standard SC Now Playing screen. I couldn't find a way to properly hook into the SC Now Playing screen...
