You are correct on the location of the .jar file on my linux music server machine and that is where I put your new version after renaming the old one. I don't have any speakers connected to the linux music server computer and have never played with getting sound working. It really is mostly dedicated to being a squeezecenter server. As such, I run softsqueeze on a Windows XP PC. I can try the command you suggest on the linux box and/or I can try to install softsqueeze on the PC. I will play with these options more tomorrow.
