I agree. I shouldn't really have had to write this applet but I love a challenge ;) The next work-in-progress version can read LIRC natively and uses xml for configuration (easier to understand than the current textfile but a bit wordier). I'm told that irBlaster stores its learnt commands in LIRC format then it should work with that too but I haven't got that far yet. I will eventually get the applet into a repo and have it downloadable as an app but it will still require some manual intervention as you will have to add the lirc files and map the ir codes to the keys of your choice. I would ideally like to be able to do all of the config via an SC plugin but as SC & SqueezePlay don't use the same scripting language I would have to learn yet another programming language.
