Hello:

I recently upgraded from a SB3 to a Touch unit and accordingly went
from SBS 7.3.3 to SBS 7.5.3 – r31792. Unfortunately, I am having real
problems installing CustomBrowse. I have tried the Settings>Plugins
approach within Squeezebox Server and also tried manually downloading
the newest plugin directly from erland’s site. Nothing seems to work.

I am on Windows 7 Ultimate and have tried disabling my Windows
Firewall, my anti-virus software (Microsoft Security Essentials), my
pop-up blockers and my ad-blocking software. I have tried on Chrome,
IE9, Opera and FireFox. My problem remains the same – nothing seems to
happen.

When I first tried from within SBS, I had to check the box “Show all
3rd party plugins” to see CustomBrowse. I checked its box … hit “apply”
… got message “Restart now” (or later) … I tried both … usually nothing
seemed to happen. No CustomBrowse check box appeared anywhere with the
box checked. No “CustomBrowse” appeared under “My Music” or “Extras” or
anywhere else. Lately, the CustomBrowse checkbox is appearing under the
“Updated plugins available” area (Settings>Plugins). But the same
result occurs when I try to apply it – it simply doesn’t seem to
install anything. I have noticed that when I allow SBS to close and
restart, there is a brief flash of a pop-up window that occurs (like a
dialog box) but it disappears before I can even really see it. This is
why I suspected the problem lie with pop-up blockers, etc.

I have also tried repeatedly to download and un-zip the file directly
from erland’s site. I have tried various folder locations including
C:\Program Files(x86)\Squeezebox\server\slim\plugin and
…server\plugins. I have deleted prior CustomBrowse files.

Part of my problem is not knowing, step-by-step, the sequence of
actions to take to install this plugin. I have searched and read
everything I could find on erland’s site and the Wiki here but could
find nothing on, for example, the need to hit the “apply” button and
then what happens next. If there is a dialog box that is supposed to
pop up after SBS restarts, that would be helpful to know.

I would deeply appreciate any help you can give. I have spent many
hours at this and must be missing something basic.

Thank you very much,

Dave
