Sorry to disappoint, although that is a good idea. Were you envisioning downloading into the iPod player on the device, or essentially having a player just for LMS music syncing? Apple guidelines mean the former would be improbable, but the latter would be feasible. Although, not sure how strict they would be to approve an app that essentially replicated their core music feature set between iTunes and iPod.
