Actually yes, artwork in general it one of the most likely causes. When iPeng loads it's thumbnails for the first time, the server sends to create them because iPeng uses bigger images than the one the server creates by default (fear iPad 3: here a full-screen image has a size that makes iPad 1 crash if you just tried to display it. And the thumbs on iPad 3 will probably get a similar size as the full-screen artwork on old iPhones! This is a HELL lot of data being used there...) Until you do a "Clear & Rescan" of the library, the server will cache the artwork so load gets down when you request the same thing a second time, even when iPeng clears it's caches (iPeng caches, too). What concerns me a bit is that iPeng doesn't read a lot of artwork in advance anymore.
