Thanks for the information. There is one additional thing I recently learned that might be related and that is that you can turn off pre-caching of artwork. Artwork pre-caching creates pre-rendered thumbnails which are too small to be useful for iPeng but if it fails because it runs into an issue with one or more images this seems to generally affect artwork display.
