It is confusing agreed, and internally very fiddly to manage. Muso has the concept of one or more "Titled Artists" for each album and these are the artists that are common to all tracks - either in the Album Artist attribute or if this is not defined, from the Artist attribute. So if all tracks have Album Artist set to "X" then the titled artist is "X" even if the tracks have different values for Artist. If the Album Artist is not defined then all tracks have to have some common value for "Artist" in order for it to be considered a titled artist. The situation is more confusing in that either attribute can define multiple artist values separated by a ; or some other separator character (configurable) - so there can be more than one titled artist. A compilation is assumed when no Artist or Album Artist attribute is filled in at all, where "Various Artists" is defined in all Artist or all Album Artist attributes, or where all tracks have the Compilation flag set. Compilations are put at the end of the gallery view (under index entry "*"), and are put under "Various Artists" in the hierarchy view by Artist - this is one inconsistency I acknowledged in my last post, I think I will have to at least take the same approach to each, I'll look at this soon. The other difference is that the gallery view ordered by artist only lists each album once, under their titled artist (the FIRST titled artist when it has multiple), but the Hierarchical view by Artists lists all the Titled Artists so can show the same album under more than one entry if it has more than one titled artist. The Artist page can list other albums that the artist has only contributed to (i.e. is not the titled artist, but appears on one or more tracks). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ jezbo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9888 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91575 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
