I reported earlier some problems with duplications when changes were made to the underlying music file tags, rescanned in LMS and synch'd. After further investigation, I believe this to be a problem with LMS in that it does not always delete changed tracks/albums from the database when rescanning. The way to resolve this is to do a complete rescan in LMS, rather just doing new and changed files.
