First of all, it's default in my setup and trying to remove it leaves
behind about 20 broken packages. I'd like to avoid that.

work with ALSA and I didn't even get that far.

Yes, that's what I am trying to do.

How would I configure the custom-convert.conf file to use the command

parec -d alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo.monitor --file-format=wav 
out.wav
[/code]

to record (of course not writing to out.wav but to redirect to lame/flac
whatever).
