I keep my duplicate mp3 files separate and not scanned by LMS. There's 2 possibilities if you want to use mp3 for remote streaming,
1. Use bit rate limiting and your server can transcode to mp3 using the original flac files. 2. The latest 7.9 nightlies now have an option to directly browse and play from the file system without needing them scanned and in your library, using this browse method doesn't add the tracks to your library either.
