I just made expectingtofly's changes to the parser (the rtmp changes, not HLS) and it worked fine. (Well, I remmed out the old lines and entered the replacement lines, after having made a backup of the file.) Might be worth double checking the edits you made. Also, if you made a backup file - is there any possibility that the backup and amended files got mixed up. (Sorry for the silly suggestions, but I've done those things in the past.)
