Thanks for your help. It was indeed the shell setting that was wrong. However, the process didn't work anyway. It looks like TheLastMan was right and that it won't work on Arm7 processors. However, the thought of starting over with a raspberry pi gives me a dull ache in the skull. Besides, I really don't need to plug yet another device in. Looks like I'll just have to wait for the dust to settle and buy whatever device eventually works. Very upset to lose the Squeezebox Radios. I had a Pure Evoke flow before that, which I loathed. I'll probably go down the Roberts/Sangean route if that looks like a goer. But I'll keep checking in here on the off chance. Thanks to all of those dedicating hours trying to fix this.
