I think you will struggle. ffmpeg is a big problem on Arm7 based Synology Diskstations (such as the DS214 that I own) and most DS1xx, DS2xx and DS4xx models from the last couple of years. It should work on an Atom based Synology though.
After some hacking I gave up and am now running LMS on a Raspberry Pi. Pretty easy to set up using the Squeezeplug / Max2play Linux distro. There is a thread here that covers it. I still have all my music on the NAS though with both connected by cable through my Router. I am using the old version 1 "B" variant, but the latest version 2 of the Raspberry Pi has a more powerful processor than the DS214 and just as much memory - so performance will probably be better anyway. You can also install LMS 7.8 and 7.9 beta which are not available for the Synology DS line.
