The workaround I've used is to edit the 'settings' pm file in iplayer by
removing the HLS entry in the first line as below:

This then allows the selection of an On Demand preference to
DASH>MP3>FlashAAC>FlashMP3
It seems to work at the iplayer Extra is now playing a DASH stream but
you do lose the choice of an HLS stream.
As a complete solution is it possible to get the preferences to select
DASH before HLS?
