@mherger: I read in a post by Triode that the Spotify relogin mechanism has been implemented in order to get a new Spotify server in case of heavy rebuffering or too slow Spotify responses. My gut feeling tells me that maybe this mechanism kicks in too quickly in case of rebufferings and actually makes things worse by consequent relogins (one after another, another, another...). Is it possible for you to have a look at the part of the Triode plugin?
Unfortunately I don't have access to the source code of the helper application. If you could run Triode's plugin again, just to double-check it's indeed working differently, might help. Though I doubt there's any difference, as the SPH plugin is a stripped down version of Triode's, not a different implementation.
