a lookup table of what lives where
a ghastly regexp to determine where to look

Those are all implementation details. Is this change for the benefit of the users or the programmer?


The big point is that it doesn't matter if something is a function or an operator? The distinction is irrelevant 99% of the time.

What if you had a US atlas that indexed the states in one table, and the commonwealths in another?
