"Do you think your mom was already home then or was she usually out later
than that," Frances asked feeling sorry for this kid by the minute. Danae
hadn't said flat out that her mom was gone a lot, but she was beginning to
get the gist of what life in this house was all about and she didn't like it
one bit. She was only a kid, sixteen or seventeen at the most. What was
wrong with people, putting that kind of life on someone her age? Frances
knew all about not thinking ill of the dead, or missing but she had never
been able to remove herself from situations that much.
