Reese dived under the water and then came back up, figuring she was far
enough from any accidental swimmers or people glancing her way to really
tell what was about to happen, then she started to let go.

The process - and something she had never gotten used to yet - wiped her out
for the most part and she still wondered what had happened to make her
different like this, whether it was a gift or a curse.

It started from the center of her body and moved outward, a wave of heat
that rose to her face and extended to her limbs and within seconds she was
closing her eyes and feeling the water starting to bubble around her.

"Stephen King must have had a camcorder on me." she whispered like she
always did, thinking of the book he had written about a girl with PK. Of
course... she'd never been chased down by the government.

Because your mother kept you secret... a thought crossed her mind, making
her think of the woman that had had to take on so much without her daughter
ever having realized it before. Even if she had hid the truth from her,
Sara had done it thinking it would keep Reese safe.. for that she couldn't
really fault her for it. A mother would do just about anything to keep a
child safe.

Even lie to her and the father.

The flood gates of emotion started pouring out and Reese was finally hit
with the realization her mother was dead, never to return. She covered her
face and fought for control as her body reacted to the emotions and
happenings of the past few days. She was in water up to her shoulders and
even as she stood there it lowered to an inch, and then another. Steam was
rising all about her as she continued to cry and all she could do was ride
it out.
