"I bet it could," Kat said softly, "if we tried hard enough.  I don't know
what you want to say anyways."

"Nothing disappears like this." Julia admitted "And if it sits long
enough... well it doesn't work out for people that want to stay friends."

She looked up at the ceiling before looking at Kat "Our relationship is..
unique to say the least.  I asked to be your guardian angel.  I wasn't an
angel but I got the job.  Your dad has the job now on that side but... well
I care about you Kat and I took up the job on this side, especially with
your mom being sick."

She looked Kat in the eye, the shadow of remembered fear and pain in her
blue gaze as she replayed again just how close she had come to losing both
Kat and Derek.

"I talked to Derek about you going back to school."

Her look shifted slightly to include a quiet curiosity "When I told you that
I was going to talk to him about it and see what could be done, did you
believe me?  You know... did you know I was going to do it, because I said I
was going to do it?"
