"Okay," the little girl agreed and clambered onto her back. "Julia is Derek
still mad at me? He was last night, I know he was, I heard him call me
once, but...I didn't answer him cause he sounded so mad."
Julia held her and thought about it for a moment before answering "He's
upset like I am, Kat. We came closer than we ever want to get to losing you
and.. people he loves were put in danger. But he also knows who did what so
it's not you he's angry with. Not the way you're thinking."
She walked toward Derek's office, taking her time so that she could answer
Kat's question and assure her.
"He's very protective of his family and we're a part of it. Just remember
he was angry and scared because someone was hurting us and trying to take
you away from us. It'll work out, Kat. Just be honest and we'll all be
fine."
They reached the spot just before stepping in front of the door and she
looked back at her, giving her a gentle half smile "Okay?"
