Derek took a deep breath, trying to calm his frazzled nerves. And they had
been frazzled since his talk with his mother. Gently he pulled Julia into
his lap settling his arm around her.

"I plan to spend the rest of my life with you and I believe that when two
people love each other that much and make that sort of commitment, I feel it
is only natural for them to take it a step further. I want to marry you for
many reasons, Julia. But you seem to doubt my sincerity and I'm not certain
how to convince you of this."

Julia reached up to trace his jaw, first looking at the motion and then into
his eyes. She looked into them for a long moment before swallowing slowly
and then speaking, her voice just above a whisper.

"You are going to spend the rest of your life with me, Derek. Just like I
am with you." She told him with a slight smile "We didn't get this Gift for
nothing you know."

"I.... I just have to know that it's what you want, just you. Without
feeling peculiar," she repeated the word he had used "Without knowing it's
what priests, nuns and mothers alike would want..... even without knowing it
might be what I want or what you think is right for the baby."

"Just you."

She'd know by the look in his eyes right now if it was what he really wanted
and she waited patiently, gazing between those eyes and her hand which was
still tracing along his jaw with the back of her forefinger, feeling it's
structure... its strength.
