"We were discussing it when you arrived," Derek admitted.  He was relieved
that Philip would agree to marry to them.  That would make his mother happy
and actually part of him happy as well.  He also thought it would make Julia
happy.  Now, if he could just figure out the other part, they'd be set.

"Well, how about I leave you to finish." he offered as he stood and left,
closing the door behind him before either could protest or otherwise "I'll
be back after I eat a sandwich an' get grilled by your mother."
