And this seems to go even more stranger paths, as Czech Republic
is north/east of Austria. If you look at a map, it seems to go to
Prague (Czech Republic), then around 260 km to south/east to
Vienna (Austria) and then around 600 km north/west to Frankfurt
(Germany) and then around 330 km south to Zurich (Switzerland).
An here also the path back to the looking glass server with 7
hops is quite short too, details in the attachment.
So I would agree, v6 paths are likely much different than v4 paths. The
reason is most likely that global
I am not surprised, that this path differ. So it seems that some
global players do not yet have IPv6 routing in their whole
backbone and the poor packets are forced to take some detours
around Europe.
v6 networks are much smaller with fewer links, and thus the paths between A
and Z using v6 are fewer
are farther between than in the v4 world which has been growing for the
last 25+ years.
Is the monitoring server located at TeliaSonera or somewhere
else? Maybe other global carriers have other paths to Zurich (or
to my ISP).
