But while I have your ear...

Your idea is basically sound and I suggested something similar but
there's a major problem with it.

Writing the passwords to disk is a big no-no.

Password-protected zip files are relatively weak.

Use something like PGPdisk instead. There are several similar programs
(commercial, free, or Free) which basically give you an encrypted file
system: type in the password and you have a new drive.

Most certainly not! Unless all implementations are equally solid of
course... but how likely is that?
