My chipset is also a ICH4-M and the -hrt patches work for me. However, I don't notice any difference in power usage. But maybe that's because I always measure it when very idle, when my laptop stays at C4 for as long as 98% of the time and with 10 wakeups. So saving 20 wakeups of 'extra timer interrupts' doesn't make a big difference. But I think that maybe there is some thresold where saving 20 wakeups is responsable for a 'phase transition' between Cx-states. For example, with 80 wakeups then cpu stays much longer in C4 (or C3) than with 100 wakeups, because these extra 20 wakeups are "responsable" for the decision to be in a different C-state. But that's my guess. > Powertop shows me 19 extra timer interrups. If I understand it > correctly, those would be gone with the multimedia timers. Yes, they are gone if you use -hrt, which enable HPET on ICH4-M. C.
