I'm here at the 'Internet Cafe' at Walmart (!) so
don'thave my links handy so can't find it right now,
but there is a group in Australia that uses homebuilt
antennas (cost about $10) to connect from 7km! Our
local ISP uses 802.11b for high speed wireless access
and with a 24db gain antenna (plenty expensive to buy,
the home builts are in the range of 15 db gain)
guarantees access for 10 to 20 miles!

Yes I plan on using an external antenna on the two
Windows machines (my neighbor's and my
father-in-law's) but the standard PC card on my 3400
(well, maybe a few tweeks, the internal aluminum frame
looks like it would make a good antenna!)

I guess we'll see how successful it is when I get it
set up. My brother was big into radios and 'freqing
ant tweeking', so I'm sure something can be made of
it, just hope it doesn't open and close garage doors
all down the street! :<{) (Hey, I think I just found a
way to test the range!)

I'll check out that 64 meg/ 10 gig option, thanks...
