Thanks Greg, for that idea. As you predicted, the whining stopped when I unplugged the adapter. So far so good, but all screws (at least the ones accesable under the kb)seem nice and snug. Having the keyboard out did help me narrow the source of the whine to the rear of the pb, though. I'll be dismantleing the book later to swap drives...anything else I should look for while it's open?
