As to the sudden shutdown, I started getting that reaction when I bought a new battery a while back. I have no idea why.
It is a 1995 Apple batt so it could just be old. Is there a way to > recondition the NiMH battery? I thought I read something somewhere along > the way but for the life of me, I can't find it. Look in the Apple Extras folder if you've got one--Battery Recondition should be there. There's also a shareware program called Battery Amnesia that some people claim works better, but I've never had good results from it. (The author of that program also makes a nifty program called MyBattery, convenient if you have more than one--http://www.kezer.net/mybattery.html) If not, are ebay & similar > batteries labeled "new' trustworthy being they could also be a 7 year old > battery that has simply never been used? Is there a 'best' type to watch > for? I bought two of these a while back--they did not hold a full charge. They would drop from 60% to 20% rapidly, and did not respond to software reconditioning. Still, it's convenient to get an extra hour+ of battery time, and they go for $15 or so new on eBay. I read somewhere that you shouldn't get the Panasonic branded ones--Apples are plentiful. > > 2) How warm should the underside of the pbook be when computer is being > used? Sometimes it seems pretty warm coming from the location of the drive. > Warm as in a little too warm to leave on lap all the time. > Yes, they get very warm. Not a problem, be glad there's no noisy fan. -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup Save up to $160 by signing up for NetZero Platinum Internet service. http://www.netzero.net/?refcd=N2P0602NEP8 -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
