Try other modems, especially with "Express" in their names, or try the Global
Village Platinum or Bronze modem settings.  These worked for me on 230s and
100 series as well as 5300s.  Maybe Apple used another.  Also, check modem
scripts or other modem extensions.  I needed an Express Modem extension to
make modems work on my 230s.  Good luck.
