Sounds like the system is screwed. The PB 1400 originally came with 7.5.3, which you can download free from Apple as floppy disk images. The French version is here: <ftp://ftp.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/French/Macintosh/ System/Full_Installs/System_7.5_Version_7.5.3/>
