the SCSI cable mentioned in your second post helps, although I've never used one ofthe USB-SCSI adapters it could/should work, just very slow compared to real SCSI. If you find one of the special SCSI adapters for the powerbooks, that switches between SCSI disk mode and "regular" SCSI mode, you could hook the 1400 to the iMac via the SCSI adapter as a SCSI disk, and then try and resurrect the drive with Norton Utilities or whatever. Or just reinstall the OS, putting the Cd into the IMac and choosing the mounted 1400 drive as destination. But it needs a special adapter, not just a regular powerbook SCSI adapter. There are dedicated adapters for SCSI disk mode and also adapters with a switch that you can use in either way (disk mode or just regular connector).
