Get a HDI-30 SCSI dock cable or adapter (one with 30 pins, not 29)
and connect the 1400 to your Imac via SCSI disk mode. This puts the hard
drive of your powerbook on the desktop as another external hard drive. I'm
not absolutely sure it works with an Imac but it works with most desktops.
