The instruction book for my Radio Shack NiCad Battery Charger has a good explanation as to why you don't try to recharge non-rechargeable batteries. "Caution attempting to recharge non- nicad batteries may result in explosion, fire or other damage to electrical components." Any time a PB is being run from its main battery or the AC power supply, a trickle charge is being applied to the PRAM battery as well.
If your battery shop can rebuild using the proper cells, there is no problem. If your battery shop wants to use a modified watch battery, you are welcome to send the remains of your 1400s to me any time. (I especially could use a couple of 'C" screens for my "CS" 1400s!!)
