AFAIK, there's no reason NOT to upgrade the driver to 8.1 or even 8.6.
HOWEVER... I seem to recall a very prominent warning when it comes to OS 9
that you MUST disable the OS installer from updating the driver or you will
find your drive quite inaccessible.
