Hi, I'm a newbie here, but if I may be so bold as to comment... I just souped up a 1400 with a Sonnet 466mhz G3, 64Mb RAM, and a Fujitsu 20Gb(2Mb buffer) hard drive upgrade. Under 8.6, I had frequent and across-the-board crashes at first. After a clean re-install of 8.6, however, these crashes were greatly reduced. I then experienced crashes with only certain programs/functions, and have finally weeded them out by upgrading to OS9.1, updating the Startup Disk Control Panel to 9.2.2, and playing with extensions. I'm not sure what the difference might be between the cards we own, if there are any beside the slight speed difference, but I'm pretty sure that you need to max the RAM out at 64Mb for a G3 running 9.1 - for the 1400 or anything else. I also use Virtual Memory mapped to a CompactFlash card in the PCMCIA slot rather than the hard drive, and I think that helps a bunch. I think that replacing the hard drive is a must as well, for performance at least. If you have a good disk utility, then you could rule out this having anything to do with crashes I guess...unless of course there are some weird timing issues...can you tell I'm really getting out of my depth here? ;-] If I were you, I'd get 64Mb of all-new RAM and a new disk, then re-install OS9.1 and, what the heck, get yourself a nice 256 meg Ultra CompactFlash, but that's me - I'm crazy about the 1400.
