Not so. Just got my "Dell" Truemobile 1150, installed it with the Orinoco 7.2 drivers and using 128bit encryption with no problems. 2 great places to see how-tos are:

Check both of them out. You will not be disappointed. It was tricky trying to get the 128bit working, but it is going along just fine. Just make sure that you follow the 1st guide exactly. Enable the WEP after everything is working, and go ahead and do it just as he says (extra caution, but gets the job done). Wireless on a 1400, who would have guessed. Also with a big fat blue "DELL" emblem on the side. I love the quote from the description on Dell's site aboout this card.
"Dell created TrueMobile Wireless because we believe that once you've lived with wireless, you'll never know how you lived without it. The Dell TrueMobile 1150 PCMCIA wireless card gives you the freedom to use your computer virtually whenever you want, wherever you are. "
Dell created jack with this card. They plastered a label on it and said, "MINE!" As long as it works, no problem, right?
Now, if only I had a battery for the thing that lasted more than 10 miniutes, I could go completely wireless. Speaking of which. Who has tried this ( http://wegenermedia.com/14xxbatt.htm ) battery? How is the life on it, and any other issues? $45 for a "new" 1400 battery! Best I have ever seen. Makes me just a little suspicious.
