Andrew "Mr. 5300" Kershaw doesn't know "Mustang" was a codeword for that
illustrious 'Book?!?!?

Ok, curiously, the software I'm using to alter the installer script reports that 311 belongs to "Epic." Isn't Epic the codename for the 1400? So I guess people just don'e know _what_ 311 corresponds to. Maybe it's the 5300, maybe the 1400, or maybe something altogether different that never actually reached production (much like the PowerExpress which also has a gestalt - 508 I think).

A heads-up though, copyright issues can be problematic (with Apple
especially.) A good workaround is to build a patcher for the regular
installer so's you don't have to keep an actual hacked copy in your
webspace. Not only does that greatly reduce space and bandwidth
requirements for you, but also significantly lowers your legal exposure.
While there are many tools one can use for such tasks, I've had excellent
results using ResCompare.

Dan K

Ok folks, all done!

I followed Dan's suggestion and just created a patch for AirPort 1.3.1 instead of actually putting the whole installer on my website. You can find the patch here:
<http://www.alksoft.com/personal/stuff.html>

It should work on a PowerBook 3400c, 2400c, and Kanga G3. (I wan't aware of this until I started playing around a bit, but the Kanga G3 is actually already supported by Apple - so you don't need to run the patcher to install AirPort on a Kanga). It should also work on OS 8.5 or later (excluding all versions of OS X).

If you download the software, you should read the read me before running the patch. The instructions are in it, and there are some steps you must undertake _before_ running the patcher.

Have a ball!

Oh yeah: If anyone wants to upload the patcher to his/her favorite FTP, BBS, Hotline, or Carracho server, I certainly wouldn't mind! Share the joy...

Peace,
Drew
