You probably knew this already but just in case. Are you plugging the mouse in while the 3400 is on? If so, send the 3400 to sleep and then plug in the mouse. Wake it back up and it will work normally. That's why I typically do with my 3400 when I want to use the mouse.
Umm... does the ADB have power when the 3400 is sleeping? Remember, ADB isn't hot-pluggable. That's a good way to burn out your ADB port. Always shutdown prior to connecting/disconnecting ADB devices.
