I have to hit the spacebar instead. That is if the computer is asleep and the green light blinking. If the screen just went blank but the computer is still awake then the green light isn't on and I can just move the mouse and the screen will pop back on. That happens really fast whereas waking from sleep takes a bit longer and you can hear the HD spin up.
