I had thought of this actually, I suppose it would be possible to have all the served ages on a cheap flash-card in a pcmcia bay. I might test this on my ancient PB 190 at some point (I have just purchased and installed word 5.1, it came on 800k floppies!!)

I could just get the slowest (hence coolest?) and cheapest powerbook G3 I can find with a flash card. What about the power supplies, these aren't liable to burst into flames if left on all the time are they?

There is one issue to be aware of - the PB will save an enormous amount of electricity.
For example, a PB on 24 hrs uses about as much power as a desktop in 45 minutes.
I really don't think there are any hardware issues **as long as you dont let your machine overheat *** by running it flat out on a towel or thick carpet as someone mentioned.
The disks are IMHO just as reliable as their bigger relatives, in fact there's an argument that as they are smaller and use less power, they are under less strain physically and electronically.
